“What are the best sewing machines for beginners,” is a question I get asked on a regular basis. And, some know that my recommendation is a Bernina sewing machine primarily because it’s the first one I was introduced to in a formal setting.
I didn’t have a lot problems with it when I sat down to sew or spend a lot of time troubleshooting sewing machine issues. I could sew an entire garment from start to finish without interruptions, except for re-winding the bobbin.
The first thing I hear when I recommend a Bernina Sewing Machine is that they are too expensive and I know everyone may not be in a position to make that type of investment yet. I only recently upgraded to a computerized sewing machine model almost 2 years ago.

Do some comparison shopping and ask for a demonstration of the machines that interest you. There is an endless array of brands on the market, Singer, Brother, Bernina, Janome, Pfaff, Juki and Husqvarna Viking with a significant number of features and models.
Find out what accessories are included with your model and be sure all parts are easily replaceable and that a technician’s services are available when needed.
Most sewing machines come with bobbins, machine needles and thread; along with a box of accessories that include a variety of changing presser feet that make all the stitches you can possibly need.

When you consider exactly what you will be using your sewing machine for, you’ll eliminate a lot of frustration and help you decide which sewing machine is best for you. Be sure to make a list of the features you’ve taken the time to identify from your research. Have a list of questions and the many different projects you plan to sew. The price of a new sewing machine ranges from $100 to the thousands, so it can be a substantial investment. Most sewers keep their machines for years ans are often passed down as family heirlooms, which make the return on your investment priceless. Your sewing machine selection can reward you with years of sewing as well as a valuable family heirloom.
